Accra, Ghana – June 2, 2026 – The Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) has announced the postponement of the much-anticipated Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Executive Board elections, citing ongoing vetting procedures, budgetary challenges, and the need for further stakeholder consultations.
The announcement follows the conclusion of the second phase of the vetting exercise held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, 1 June 2026, as part of preparations for the 2026 GBA Executive Board Elections.
According to the Vetting Committee, aspirants contesting for Executive Board Member positions underwent scrutiny during the latest session, while candidates from the first batch who had previously been asked to provide additional information were also given the opportunity to respond to outstanding queries.
Vetting Process Continues
The committee revealed that all aspirants have been granted an additional opportunity to submit what it described as “further and better particulars” before the final day of vetting, which is scheduled for Thursday, 4 June 2026.
Officials say the move is intended to ensure a thorough and transparent assessment of all candidates seeking positions within the governing structure of Ghanaian boxing.
Elections Deferred
While the elective congress had originally been scheduled to take place on 4 June 2026, the GBIMC has determined that several key factors make it impractical to proceed on that date.
Among the reasons cited are budgetary constraints, the ongoing compilation and verification of the delegate list, and the need for sufficient time to complete the vetting process and conduct consultations with relevant stakeholders.
As a result, the Elective Extraordinary Congress will no longer take place as planned. The committee indicated that a new date for the elections will be announced once all outstanding processes have been completed.
Commitment to Transparency
The postponement comes at a crucial period for Ghana boxing as stakeholders seek to establish a stable and credible leadership structure to guide the sport’s development in the coming years.
In a statement signed by GBIMC Chairman Samir Captan, the committee reassured stakeholders that every effort is being made to ensure the electoral process remains transparent, fair, and fully compliant with the provisions of the GBA Constitution.
“The vetting and election processes will be conducted with transparency, fairness and strict adherence to the GBA Constitution,” the statement emphasised.
