Nations FC Relegated Despite Final-Day Triumph Over Karela United

Nations FC’s stay in the Ghana Premier League has come to a heartbreaking end after the club suffered relegation on the final day of the 2025/26 campaign, despite securing a crucial victory away from home.

The Abrankese-based side defeated Karela United 1-0 in a tense encounter on Sunday, but results elsewhere ultimately condemned them to the Division One League after a challenging and inconsistent season in Ghana’s top flight.

Heading into the decisive final round of matches on 44 points and already trapped in the relegation zone, Nations FC needed both a victory and favourable outcomes from other grounds to survive. Although they fulfilled their part of the bargain with a spirited performance against Karela, their fate was sealed as rival clubs battling the drop picked up the points they required.

It marks a painful end to what had initially appeared to be a promising campaign for the club, which earned admiration for its entertaining football and impressive performances at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. However, persistent struggles away from home, coupled with several costly late defeats during the season, proved damaging to their survival hopes.

One of the defining moments of their difficult campaign came in a narrow 1-0 home defeat to Vision FC — a result many supporters now look back on as a major turning point in the relegation battle.

Under the guidance of coach Frimpong Manso, Nations FC fought relentlessly in the closing weeks of the season, showing resilience and determination as they attempted to avoid the drop. Nevertheless, their efforts were not enough to preserve their Premier League status after just one season in the top tier.

Following confirmation of their relegation, the club released an emotional statement expressing disappointment and apologising to supporters, sponsors and stakeholders.

“This is a very painful moment for everyone connected to the club,” the statement read. “We sincerely apologise to our fans, sponsors, partners and supporters for falling short this season. We take full responsibility for the outcome.

“But this is not the end of our story. We will regroup, fight and work tirelessly to bring Nations FC back to where it belongs.”

Despite the disappointment, the club is expected to retain the core of its project as it prepares for life in the Division One League, with immediate attention now turning towards rebuilding and mounting a strong promotion challenge next season.

For the club’s loyal supporters, Sunday’s events will be difficult to accept, but there remains hope that Nations FC can quickly bounce back stronger and return to the Ghana Premier League in the near future.
