Chief Executive Officer of Bishop Boxing Promotions, Dave Bishop, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Second Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), outlining an ambitious vision to elevate Ghanaian boxing and project the nation’s talent onto the global stage.

A respected figure within Ghana’s boxing fraternity, Bishop has built a reputation for nurturing promising fighters and promoting professional boxing events that have helped unearth and develop local talent. His decision to enter the GBA leadership race comes at a time when stakeholders are calling for renewed energy, innovation and strategic direction to restore Ghana’s status as a powerhouse in African and world boxing.

Speaking  in an exclusive interview with Emmanuel Austin Baah about his aspirations, Bishop emphasised the need for stronger support systems for boxers, improved talent identification programmes, enhanced grassroots development and increased international exposure for Ghanaian fighters. He believes the country possesses an abundance of untapped boxing talent capable of competing at the highest level if provided with the right opportunities and guidance.

“Our boxers have the talent, determination and fighting spirit to compete with the very best in the world. What we need is a clear strategy, stronger partnerships and sustained investment to help them reach their full potential,” Bishop stated.

The boxing promoter also pledged to work closely with clubs, coaches, managers and other stakeholders to strengthen the sport’s structures and create pathways for young athletes to transition successfully from the amateur ranks to the professional level.

Ghana has a proud boxing heritage, having produced world champions and internationally acclaimed fighters over the years. However, many observers believe the sport requires fresh leadership and innovative policies to reclaim its former glory and remain competitive in an increasingly challenging global boxing landscape.

If elected, Bishop says he will focus on attracting sponsorship, improving welfare conditions for boxers, expanding international collaborations and organising more high-profile events that will give Ghanaian fighters greater visibility on the world stage.

His candidacy is expected to generate significant interest among members of the boxing community as the Ghana Boxing Association prepares for its upcoming elections. With his extensive experience in boxing promotion and athlete development, Bishop is positioning himself as a candidate committed to driving growth, professionalism and international recognition for Ghanaian boxing.

As the election campaign gathers momentum, many within the sport will be watching closely to see whether Dave Bishop’s vision can inspire a new era of success for one of Ghana’s most celebrated sporting disciplines.
