GFA Pays Tribute to Former SWAG Presidents Ackah Anthony and Ebo Quansah

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has paid glowing tribute to two distinguished former Presidents of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Mr Ackah Anthony and Mr Ebo Quansah, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to sports journalism and the development of football in Ghana.

In a statement released on Friday, the GFA acknowledged the vital roles both men played in advancing the country’s sporting landscape through their leadership, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to journalistic excellence.

Mr Ackah Anthony, who served as SWAG President from 2014 to 2018, was commended for his collaborative efforts with the GFA and other sporting bodies, which led to greater visibility and credibility for Ghanaian sports reporting during his tenure. Under his leadership, SWAG saw an improvement in its relationship with national sports federations, including the GFA, resulting in more structured engagements and mutual respect between sports journalists and football administrators.

Mr Ebo Quansah, a seasoned journalist and former editor of The Ghanaian Chronicle, was also lauded for his fearless and insightful reportage over the years, as well as his tenure as SWAG President in the late 1990s. He is widely regarded as one of the pioneering voices of modern sports journalism in Ghana and was praised for mentoring a new generation of journalists while maintaining high ethical standards in the profession.

“The GFA deeply appreciates the enduring legacy of Mr Ackah Anthony and Mr Ebo Quansah. Their immense contributions to sports journalism have helped shape the narrative around Ghanaian football and continue to inspire many within the industry,” the statement read.

The tribute comes at a time when the GFA is seeking to strengthen its engagement with the media, recognising the critical role journalists play in promoting transparency, accountability, and growth within the sport.

The Association also expressed its commitment to supporting SWAG and other journalistic institutions to foster a more vibrant and responsible sporting media space in Ghana.
