AFCON 2023: Super Eagles suffer 2-0 defeat to Guinea in friendly encounter
The Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Syli Nationale of Guinea in a friendly fixture on Monday, January 8, 2024 to round up their preparations ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament which begins in four days.
It was a friendly fixture that came after the Super Eagles cruised over Al Gharbia FC, a local team located in Dubai, 12-0 in a training match.
The game started on a good note for the Nigerians who were hoping to break the back line of their opponents with ease.
Unfortunately for the Super Eagles, Guinea found their way to settle in the 14th minute with a superb strike from Aguibou Camara.
At the 19-minute mark, Nigeria was awarded a penalty after Umar Sadiq was brought down which Moses Simon failed to find the net.
After recess, the Guineans came into the game with a mindset to kill the game.
In the 64th minute, 18-year-old Facinet Conte pulled up to earn the bragging rights for the Guineans with a 2-0 lead.
After minutes of trying to get a consolation goal, the Nigerians were unsuccessful as the game ended a defeat for the Nigerians.
