Afriyie-Ankrah Backs Kofi Adams, Calls for National Support Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Former Minister for Youth and Sports and now Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Hon. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, has publicly thrown his support behind the current Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, as Ghana intensifies preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Afriyie-Ankrah made the remarks during the Episcopal Ordination and Installation of Rev. Monsignor Simon Kofi Appiah as Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Jasikan. The ceremony, held in the Oti Region, drew a cross-section of political, traditional and religious leaders, including Kofi Adams, who also serves as Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency, which covers the Jasikan District.

Addressing the gathering,Hon. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah underscored the significance of the sports ministry in shaping national pride and unity, particularly at a time when Ghana is aiming to make a strong impact on the global stage.

“Hon. Kofi Adams is leading Ghana towards the World Cup, and he requires our collective prayers and support,” he stated. “The Ministry of Sports and Recreation is a very sensitive portfolio, one that carries the hopes and expectations of the entire nation. I firmly believe that under his leadership, Ghana can achieve success and bring honour and glory to the country you have my full support”.

He further urged Ghanaians, especially faith-based organisations, to rally behind the minister and the national teams, stressing the importance of unity and spiritual backing in achieving sporting excellence.

Kofi Iddie Adams, who has been actively engaging stakeholders across the sporting fraternity since assuming office, is expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring Ghana’s readiness both on and off the pitch ahead of the tournament.

The endorsement from Hon. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah adds to growing confidence among political and sporting figures, as the nation looks forward to a successful campaign at the global showpiece.
