Afriyie Barnieh Departs FC Zürich Move to FC Aarau on Two-Year Deal

Ghanaian international Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has reportedly signed a two-year contract with Swiss Challenge League side FC Aarau, shortly after parting ways with FC Zürich.

The 23-year-old forward mutually agreed to terminate his contract with FC Zürich on 4 July 2025, ending an 18-month spell that saw limited playing time and a series of injury setbacks. Since joining Zürich from Accra Hearts of Oak in January 2023, Barnieh struggled to cement a place in the starting line-up, registering only a handful of appearances in the Swiss Super League.

Sources close to the player suggest that Barnieh is keen to revive his career and regain form ahead of potential national team call-ups. His move to FC Aarau, who currently compete in Switzerland’s second tier, could offer him the regular playing time and fresh start he needs.

The deal has officially been confirmed by the club, reports indicate that the former Black Satellites captain has signed a two-year contract with the Aarau-based outfit.

Barnieh remains one of Ghana’s promising young talents, having played a key role in Ghana’s U-20 AFCON triumph in 2021 and featured in the senior national team setup
