Former Ghana head coach Charles Akonnor has become the first manager in the Kenyan Premier League to win the prestigious Coach of the Month award in consecutive months.

Akonnor, who led the Black Stars between 2020 and 2021, was on Wednesday named the SportPesa Premier League Coach of the Month, successfully retaining the accolade and setting a new benchmark in the competition.

The Gor Mahia tactician beat strong competition from AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani, Murang’a SEAL head coach Osborne Monday, and Bandari FC manager Bernard Mwalala to clinch the award.

During the month of January, Akonnor guided Gor Mahia to an impressive run of form, securing five wins and one draw in six league matches. His side scored 15 goals and conceded just four, underlining their dominance at both ends of the pitch.

The achievement further enhances Akonnor’s growing reputation in East African football, as he continues to steer Gor Mahia’s push for domestic success.
