“Albert Amoah’s Strike Ends Kotoko’s 15-Year Wait in Berekum!”

Ghana Premier League 2025/26: Kotoko End 15-Year Winless Run in Berekum with Victory Over Chelsea

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club ended a 15-year winless streak at the Golden City Park with a narrow but historic 1–0 triumph over Berekum Chelsea on Match Day One of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors, who had not tasted victory in Berekum since 2010, defied the odds in a fiercely competitive encounter before a charged atmosphere. Berekum Chelsea, traditionally dominant on home soil, looked set to extend their unbeaten home record against Kotoko, but the visitors displayed resilience and tactical discipline throughout.

The breakthrough arrived in the 79th minute when Albert Amoah calmly slotted home the decisive goal, sparking jubilant celebrations among the Kotoko contingent. Chelsea responded with late pressure, but Kotoko’s defence held firm to protect their lead.

This result not only hands Kotoko a perfect start to their league campaign but also breaks a long-standing jinx at one of the most difficult grounds in Ghanaian football. Chelsea, on the other hand, will be left to regroup as they prepare for their next challenge.
