Algeria begins AFCON 2023 camping in Togo
The Algerian National team held their first training at the Kégué stadium in Lome, Togo ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.
The Fennecs touched down in Lome on Monday afternoon after a six-hour direct flight from Algiers.
All 26 players had reported to camp as they were taken through intense football training on their first day.
As part of getting ready for the tournament, the team would be engaged in two friendly matches against Togo and Burundi.
The North African side will face the Togolese national team on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the Kégué stadium, before locking horns with Burundi’s national team in four days time.
Algeria are paired in AFCON Group D alongside Burkina Faso, Angola, and Mauritania for this year’s tournament.
The Fennecs, who are one of the favourites for the 34th edition of the biennial African association football tournament, will begin their 2023 AFCON campaign against Angola on January 15, 2024.
