Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu made his long-awaited return to competitive football on Sunday after spending nine months on the sidelines through injury.

The Clermont Foot star was introduced in the 72nd minute of their Ligue 1 clash against Lorient, following suspensions from a double red card incident in the previous fixture against Rennes. Despite Clermont falling to a heavy 4–0 defeat, Seidu impressed during his 18-minute cameo, registering 25 touches and earning a respectable match rating of 7.2.

His return was warmly welcomed by his team-mates and coaching staff, who have sorely missed his aggression and leadership at the back. Fans also expressed their delight on social media, hailing his resilience and determination to recover after such a lengthy absence.

Seidu himself could not hide his joy, describing his comeback as a personal victory after months of hard work in rehabilitation. “It feels amazing to be back on the pitch doing what I love most. I’m grateful to the medical team, the coaches, and the fans who stood by me throughout this difficult period,” he said.

Although Clermont’s result was disappointing, the defender’s return is considered a major boost for both club and country, with many tipping him to quickly regain his starting place and form an integral part of the Black Stars’ defensive set-up in the months ahead.
