Anthony Joshua Explores Hosting Major Fight in Ghana as Team Scouts Accra

Anthony Joshua, the London 2012 Olympic gold medallist and former two-time unified heavyweight champion, is weighing up the possibility of staging a high-profile fight in Africa as part of his next career move. His team has travelled to Ghana to explore potential opportunities, with early signs pointing towards a major sporting spectacle on the continent.

Representatives from Joshua’s camp arrived in Accra earlier this week to scout venues and engage in preliminary talks with local sporting authorities and event organisers. Matchroom Boxing CEO Frank Smith and Joshua’s long-time manager, Freddie Cunningham, inspected the 40,000-capacity Accra Sports Stadium, assessing its suitability for hosting a world-class boxing event.

Sources close to the discussions suggest that the visit is part of a broader plan to connect Joshua with his African heritage and to inspire a new generation of boxers on the continent. Should the event materialise, it would mark one of the most significant boxing nights in Africa since the iconic “Rumble in the Jungle” between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in 1974.
