Asante Kotoko to Host Wydad Athletic Club at the Accra Sports Stadium After CAF Stadium Rejection

Asante Kotoko have announced that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has rejected the use of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi for their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup first-leg tie against Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco.

According to the club’s official statement, CAF’s inspection team did not grant approval for the Baba Yara Stadium due to certain infrastructural and technical deficiencies that failed to meet the Confederation’s hosting standards.

As a result, Kotoko will now relocate the crucial fixture to the Accra Sports Stadium, where they will face the Moroccan giants on Sunday, 19 October 2025, with kick-off set for 3:00 p.m.

The switch of venue is seen as a significant setback for the Porcupine Warriors, who had hoped to capitalise on their strong home support in Kumasi. However, the club has urged fans across the country, especially those in the capital, to turn up in their numbers and rally behind the team as they seek a positive result in the first leg.

Wydad Athletic Club, one of Africa’s most successful sides, are expected to arrive in Ghana a few days before the encounter to acclimatise and complete final preparations.

The return leg is scheduled to take place in Casablanca later this month, with the aggregate winner progressing to the next round of the competition.
