The National Team of Benin’s name is from Squirrels of Benin to Cheetah of Benin.
The changed of name takes effect immediately as they are preparing for their next competitive game in the AFCON 2023 Qualifiers.
The change of name was taken in an Executive Committee meeting done by the Football Association which was approved by members.
The Cheetah of Benin, previously “Squirrels” will be managed by former Nigeria National team coach Gernot Rohr who was appointed by the Benin Football Association’s Executive Council Members few days ago.
The change of name comes in a form of restructuring of the national team to be competitive on the African continent.
Benin are in Group L of the AFCON 2023 Qualifier with Senegal, Mozambique and Rwanda.
They have lost all their two games played in the Qualifier against Senegal and Mozambique and will come face-to-face with Rwanda later in March in a double-headers encounter.
