Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President Fred Pappoe isn’t a fan of criticisms labeled at goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.

The possibility of Accra Hearts of Oak’s Asare starting in goal for Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team has been at the centre of heated debates with Ghana all but certain to qualify to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Supporters point to Asare’s impressive clean sheets record with the 32 year old shot-stopper keeping five clean sheets in as many games in the qualifiers while critics point to the lack of quality opposition he has faced but Fred Pappoe has rejected such calls for Asare’s exit.

“I don’t know why people are making an issue of it. The man has been given a job to do and he-Benjamin Asare- is doing the job so what is our point?”

“We put him into the goal post to make sure we don’t have balls entering our net…and he is doing just that. It’s not a call we should be making now” Fred Pappoe said about the Benjamin Asare issue in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports.
