Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has shared his reflections on his time with the national team so far, expressing gratitude to his teammates and technical staff for their unity, respect, and teamwork.
Speaking in an interview on Original TV, the Hearts of Oak shot-stopper described his experience with the Black Stars as a blessing and a major step in his professional career.
“Although I am a local goalkeeper, by God’s grace, the level I’ve reached allows me to call myself a professional goalkeeper,” Asare said. “The Black Stars defenders give me the respect I deserve and never look down on me because I play in the local league. We all work together as one team.”
He further explained the importance of teamwork and communication on the pitch, particularly during high-pressure matches.
“Before every game, all the players come together to talk. I guide them on our shape and positioning, but in football, mistakes can happen at any time. I can receive a back pass and even make a mistake myself — it’s all part of the game,” he noted.
Reflecting on Ghana’s impressive defensive record during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Asare was quick to credit the entire team rather than taking personal glory.
“The many clean sheets we’ve kept shouldn’t be credited to me alone. From the strikers to the midfielders, defenders, and myself, we’ve all been working towards the same goal. I thank all my teammates for their hard work — they are all part of this achievement.”
Asare’s humility and leadership have earned him widespread admiration among fans and teammates alike, cementing his status as one of Ghana’s most respected home-based professionals.
