Bernard Tekpetey nets in Bulgarian League nine-goal thriller as CSKA Sofia overcome Ludogorets

Ghanaian’s Benard  Tekpetey found the net in a wild 5–4 defeat for Ludogorets Razgrad against second-placed CSKA 1948 Sofia in one of the most dramatic clashes of the Bulgarian top flight this season.

The 28-year-old continued his fine run of form by scoring in the 10th minute to cancel out an early opener from Mamadou Diallo, who had put CSKA ahead just three minutes in.

Tekpetey’s goal momentarily lifted the Green Eagles, but the hosts responded ruthlessly. Elias Correa Franco restored CSKA’s lead before Brian Sobrero added a third shortly before half-time.

Things went from bad to worse after the restart when Ludogorets Beninois defender Olivier Verdon scored an own goal to make it 4–1, and Branislav Tsonev appeared to put the game beyond reach with a fifth for the second-placed CSKA 1948 Sofia who have accrued 29 points so far.

Ludogorets, however, refused to succumbed as they put together to shake off sloppiness with a late surge that saw Andre Hoffmann turn the ball into his own net and Ivaylo Chochev strike twice to drag the Green Eagles within touching distance.

The comeback could have been complete, but Chochev missed from the spot in stoppage time, leaving Ludogorets just short in a chaotic nine-goal spine cracker.

Despite the loss, Ludogorets remain within touching distance of the top of the table, while Tekpetey’s performance will give head coach Georgi Dermendzhiev further encouragement heading into the next round of fixtures.
