Even before they stage their inaugural fight event on August 23, new promotional outfit, Bishop Boxing Promotions, are already punching above their weight with an ambitious plan to build a modern boxing academy in Accra by the summer of 2026.

The brainchild of American businessman and philanthropist David Bishop, the upcoming Bishop Boxing Academy aims to become a beacon of opportunity, empowerment and sporting excellence for Ghana’s youth.

Strategically set to be located in a prominent part of the capital for accessibility, the academy will offer structured training, mentorship and personal development programmes for young aspiring fighters, with a long-term goal of nurturing Ghana’s next generation of champions, both in and out of the ring.

The boxing promoter is envisioning the academy to become a game-changer for grassroots sport in Ghana, combining opportunity, mentorship and athletic excellence in one powerful package.

“We are proud to unveil the Bishop Boxing Academy, an innovative project to foster and promote creative talent in boxing, especially among the youth in Ghana,” said Mr Bishop in a statement.

“We want to create a supportive space where every young Ghanaian has the chance to unlock their potential, cultivate their skills and chase their dreams through the sport.”

Mr Bishop, who boasts over 47 years of experience in entertainment promotion, also runs a successful travel and tourism enterprise that has, for over a decade, strengthened connections between Ghana and the diaspora.

Now officially Ghanaian, following his enstoolment as Nana Ekow Amu I, Development Chief of Nyanfeku Ekroful in the Central Region, Bishop says his mission goes beyond boxing. It’s about transformation.

“Boxing offers more than competition. It instils discipline, self-belief and resilience. Our academy will be a vital hub for shaping not just athletes, but strong, focused and confident young leaders,” he explained.

And while the academy may still be a year away, fans can get a taste of Bishop Boxing Promotions’ vision later this month. Their maiden event at the Bukom Boxing Arena on  August 23 promises an unforgettable night of action — and a platform for some of Ghana’s most exciting young prospects to shine.

“This is just the beginning,” said Nana Ekow Amu I.

“Join us on this exciting journey to uplift and inspire the youth of Ghana through the art of boxing. Together, we can build a stronger, more empowered future — one punch at a time.”
