Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has named his final 24-player squad to represent Ghana at this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to take place in Morocco.
The list, officially confirmed via the Ghana Football Association’s social media platforms, contains no major surprises, as it largely features players who have been involved in Coach Björkegren’s setup since his appointment in January.
The squad is composed of three goalkeepers, eight defenders, seven midfielders, and six forwards. Skipper Portia Boakye remains the most experienced player in the team, having featured in three previous WAFCON tournaments.
Ghana makes a return to the continental showpiece after missing out on the 2022 edition. The Black Queens will compete in Group C, opening their campaign against defending champions South Africa on 7 July, followed by matches against Mali on 11 July and Tanzania on 14 July.
