Bounou Triumphs as CAF Goalkeeper of the Year

3

Moroccan  Yassine Bounou, widely known as Bono, was crowned Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year at the prestigious 2025 CAF Awards in Rabat, Morocco. This marks a remarkable second time the Moroccan shot-stopper has claimed the title, having first won it in 2023.

In a heartfelt speech following his win, Bounou expressed gratitude to his teammates at Al Hilal, as well as the staff of the Moroccan national team. He also paid tribute to King Mohammed VI and the people of Morocco, dedicating the award to them with the refrain “Dima Maghrib” — “Always Morocco.”

Bounou’s performances over the past season were nothing short of stellar. His consistent shot-stopping and composure under pressure played a key role in Al Hilal’s defensive solidity. Furthermore, as a longstanding pillar of the Atlas Lions’ defence, he continues to command respect at both club and international level.

The 2025 CAF Awards, held in Rabat, provided a platform for the continent’s finest talents to be celebrated, and Bounou’s win underscored his enduring quality between the posts.
