CAF slaps Ghana with $15,000 fine over fans misconduct

The Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a fine of Fifteen Thousand Dollars on the Ghana Football Association over fans misconduct during the Ghana, Cape Verde clash.

The game, which took place on Sunday January 14,2024 at the stade Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan saw Ghana’s group of supporters involved in some heated clashes.

A statement from the GFA said “The Safety and Security Official reported that two groups of supporters from Ghana were involved in a scuffle at half-time at the stand N°18. There was use of tear gas during the incident.

The Disciplinary Board took the decision after examining all the facts, allegations, legal arguments, and evidence submitted in the context of these proceedings.”

According to the Ghana Football Association, it  had been given 60 days ultimatum to pay the fine.

The GFA also noted that it would liaise with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the leadership of the supporters groups to avoid any future occurrence.
