AFCON 2023: Cheikhou Kouyaté leaves camp for father’s burial
Senegalese midfielder, Cheikhou Kouyaté has been granted permission to leave the team’s camp at the ongoing AFCON 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire to attend his father’s burial.
The 32-year-old lost his dad in Dakar whiles at training preparing for his sides next fixture.
A statement from the team said “The President of the Senegalese Football Federation , Mr. Augustin Senghor, the members of the Executive Committee, the coach of the National Football Team, Mr. Aliou Cisse.
The players of the National Football Team and the football family have the regret and deep pain to inform you of the death of Mr. Bandiougou Kouyate, father of Ckeikhou Kouyate, member of the Senegal National Team.”
The lifting of the body of Mr. Bandiougou Kouyate is planned for Wednesday January 17, 2024 at the Khar Yalla mosque, followed by the burial at the Muslim cemetery.
