Confirmed: Thomas Partey to Join Black Stars Squad Today Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

The former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will join the Black Stars squad today as preparations intensify for Ghana’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Chad and Mali.

Partey’s inclusion comes as a major boost for Otto Addo’s side, with the experienced midfielder expected to bring leadership, stability, and creativity to the team’s midfield. Known for his passing range, tactical awareness, and ability to dictate play, his presence is expected to strengthen Ghana’s chances of securing positive results in the upcoming fixtures.

The Black Stars will first travel to N’Djamena to face Chad on Thursday, 4 September, before returning to Accra to host Mali on Monday, 8 September. Ghana currently top Group I with 15 points from six matches, leaving them well placed in their bid to qualify for a fifth FIFA World Cup.

However, Partey’s return to international duty comes against the backdrop of ongoing legal proceedings in the United Kingdom. The 32-year-old has been granted conditional bail after appearing before a London court on charges of rape and sexual assault. He faces five counts of rape involving two women and one count of sexual assault against a third woman.

Partey is expected to reappear in court today as the case progresses.

Despite the off-field issues, Ghanaian supporters will be hoping his involvement on the pitch provides the inspiration needed for the Black Stars to edge closer to World Cup qualification.
