The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association has dismissed a protest filed against Asante Kotoko by Aduana Stars on fielding an unqualified player, Nicholas Mensah, in their Match Day 10 encounter at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park at Dormaa Ahenkro.
Aduana Stars, the Petitioners claim Asante Kotoko had registered winger Nicholas Mensah with different identity with regards to his date of birth and club he moved to Asante Kotoko.
In their case, Aduana Stars state that “the player was first registered by Sons of Thunder FC as Louis Mensah with his Date of Birth as 17/03/2003” and that “itis the contention of the Petitioner that the Respondent altered the registration details of the player after it failed to negotiate a transfer with Sons of Thunder FC.”
Aduana Stars further insisted that Asante Kotoko “altered the player”s name to
Nicholas Mensah with his Date of Birth as 17/01/2003″ and are calling on the GFA Disciplinary Committee to declare them winners of the said match and apply the necessary sanctions in accordance with the GFA Premier League Regulations 2019.”
In their response, Asante Kotoko “contended that the protest filed by the Petitioner lacks merit and should be dismissed” and that “it had been taken aback as to the claims of the Petitioner with regard to breaching Artcle 22 1(a).”
They further stated that “the player was duly registered within the period set for the registration of players” of which “they described the claims of the Petitioner as being hollow and does not support the facts t seeks to present.”
The defending league champions added
that “it finds the reliance of the Petitioner on the above instant case as one without merit and ought to be disregarded.”
The Disciplinary Committee in their findings unraveled that “player Nicholas Mensah was transferred to Asante Kotoko SC by Dumasua Delsanco FC on 18/08/2022 where he was registered with the same details from Dumasua Delsanco FC.” and “that Dumasua Delsanco FC and the player must be charged for the misconduct.”
It further declares that “Asante Kotoko SC did not alter or change any details of the player as was given to them by Dumasua Desanco FC.”
The Disciplinary Committee concluded that “the instant protest is hereby dismissed” and that “in accordance with Article 28(2)(b) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, Asante Kotoko SC is not the guilty party in this instant case and the results of the Ghana Premier League match between Aduana FC and Asante Kotoko SC shall stand.”
