Doodo Commends Sharaf Mahama for Reviving Ghana’s International Boxing Profile
Renowned boxing coach and matchmaker, Augustus Doodo, has praised leading promoter and Chief Executive Officer of Legacy Promotions, Sharaf Mahama, for his significant contribution to the resurgence of Ghanaian boxing on the international stage.

Doodo’s remarks follow a series of high-profile boxing events organised by Legacy Promotions, which have attracted growing attention both locally and beyond. According to him, the recent promotions have not only reignited interest in the sport but have also created a platform for Ghanaian fighters to showcase their talent against quality opposition.
He noted that for several years, Ghana’s once-vibrant boxing scene had struggled to maintain global visibility, despite the country’s rich history in producing world-class fighters. However, he believes the renewed investment and strategic organisation of events by Mahama are helping to restore the nation’s reputation as a powerhouse in African boxing.
“Sharaf Mahama has shown great commitment to the sport,” Doodo stated. “What he is doing goes beyond organising fights—he is rebuilding confidence in Ghana boxing and giving young fighters the exposure they need to compete at the highest level.”
Doodo further highlighted the professionalism associated with recent fight nights, including improved matchmaking, better promotion, and enhanced production standards, which he says are essential in attracting international interest and partnerships.
He also emphasised that such initiatives provide a critical pathway for up-and-coming boxers to gain experience, secure rankings, and potentially earn opportunities on bigger global platforms. In his view, consistent and well-structured promotions are key to sustaining the growth of the sport.
The veteran coach urged other stakeholders, including corporate bodies and the Ghana Boxing Authority, to support initiatives that aim to elevate the sport.
With momentum building, Doodo expressed optimism that Ghana boxing is on the path to reclaiming its former glory, provided the current efforts are maintained and expanded.
“Ghana has always had the talent,” he added. “What we need is the right platform—and I believe this is a step in the right direction.”
