Dr. Alex Ackon of the Ghana Police Hospital won his second championship at the 10th Edition of the CEOs and Executives Ping Pong Tournament, defeating defending champion Emmanuel Kusi of the Bank of Ghana in a gripping final on December 19, 2025, at the Palms by Eagles Hotel.
The annual event, organised by Safety Communication Consult, drew a strong field of corporate leaders and professionals who competed first in a round-robin group stage before the top two from each of four groups progressed to the knockout phase.
Kwaku Gyampo led Group 1 with straight-sets victories over Mohammed Matara and Eden Kulevome, while Matara secured second place by defeating Kulevome. Laud Fifi Aidoo topped Group 2 with dominant wins over Peter Egyin Mensah and Kwofie Richmond, followed by Mensah in second. Dr. Ackon cruised through Group 3, beating Dr. Sylvester Nyamekye, Divine Aju, and Joshua Chikezie without dropping a game, with Nyamekye taking the runner-up spot. In Group 4, Emmanuel Kusi emerged first with comprehensive victories over Ebenezer Lawson, Theodore Boafor, and Elijah Azu, while Boafor claimed second.
The quarter-finals delivered straightforward results except for one walkover: Kwaku Gyampo advanced when Peter Egyin Mensah could not continue. Emmanuel Kusi dispatched Dr. Sylvester Nyamekye 3-0, Dr. Ackon overcame Mohammed Matara 3-0, and Theodore Boafor eliminated Laud Fifi Aidoo 3-0.
In the semi-finals, Kusi prevailed over Gyampo 3-1 in a closely contested match (11-9, 9-11, 11-9, 11-6), while Dr. Ackon eased past Dr. Theodore Boafor of the University of Ghana Medical School 3-0 (11-6, 11-4, 11-7).
The final saw defending champion Kusi take the first game 11-8, but Dr. Ackon responded decisively, winning the next three games 11-9, 11-1, and 11-4 to lift the trophy.
Speaking afterwards, Dr. Ackon highlighted the role of disciplined preparation in his victory. “I’ve been training seriously in recent times,” he said, “and playing in the ongoing Security Services League in Accra has been a major factor in improving my performance.”
Emmanuel Kusi took home silver, while Dr. Theodore Boafor and Kwaku Gyampo shared joint bronze.
The tournament was smoothly officiated by Ghana Table Tennis Association umpires Kimathi Anthony Kpodo, Francis Atiboe, and Benjamin Eddy-Acquah, under the direction of ITTF-trained Competition Manager David Senyo Ahiaba, assisted by Victor Smart.
