Indian Super League giants East Bengal FC have officially confirmed the signing of Abena Anoma Opoku, captain of Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC, ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The highly rated midfielder, who has been a key figure in the dominance of Ampem Darkoa in the Ghana Women’s Premier League and FA Cup, makes the move to India as she seeks to take her career to the next level.

Speaking after her unveiling, an elated Opoku expressed her delight at joining the historic Kolkata-based club. “This is a big step in my career, and I am truly honoured to wear the East Bengal shirt. I am excited to test myself in a new environment, and I will give everything to make the fans proud,” she said.

East Bengal officials also welcomed the signing, describing Opoku as a player with leadership, skill and vast experience on the African stage. The club believes her arrival will add quality and depth to their midfield as they aim to challenge strongly in the upcoming season.
