EXCLUSIVE: Black Stars to Face Honduras in Final World Cup Warm-Up Match

The Black Stars of Ghana will take on Honduras in a closed-door international friendly as part of their final preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ghana Media Hub can exclusively reveal.

Sources within the Football Federation of Honduras have confirmed that an agreement has been reached for the two nations to meet in Washington, D.C., before Ghana relocates to its World Cup training base in Rhode Island.

The fixture is expected to provide head coach and his technical team with a final opportunity to assess the squad, fine-tune tactical plans and make crucial decisions ahead of Ghana’s opening match of the tournament.

Ghana have already undertaken an intensive programme of preparatory matches against a variety of opponents. The Black Stars suffered a 5-1 defeat to Austria in Vienna on 27 March before narrowly losing 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart three days later. A home-based Ghana side then fell 2-0 to Mexico on 22 May, while the senior squad earned a respectable 1-1 draw against Wales in Cardiff on 2 June.

Despite the mixed results, the fixtures have provided invaluable lessons for the coaching staff, allowing them to evaluate player performances, strengthen team chemistry and test different tactical approaches against both European and CONCACAF opposition.

The upcoming encounter with Honduras is particularly significant, as it offers Ghana another opportunity to prepare for the style of football they could encounter against fellow CONCACAF representatives Panama in their Group L opener.

The Black Stars arrived in the United States earlier this week following their draw with Wales and have since intensified preparations as anticipation builds ahead of the global showpiece.

With the World Cup now just days away, the Honduras friendly will bring Ghana’s pre-tournament schedule to a close and offer one final examination before the four-time African champions begin their quest for glory on football’s biggest stage.
