Exclusive: NSA Extends Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee Mandate by Three Months, Elections Set for May–June 2026

The National Sports Authority (NSA), with the backing of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, has extended the mandate of the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) by an additional three months to allow the committee to complete critical reforms within the sport.

The extension is aimed at consolidating the gains achieved since the committee was constituted, addressing outstanding administrative and structural challenges, and finalising a comprehensive roadmap that will guide the transition to an elected leadership for the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA). Officials say the move is necessary to ensure a transparent, credible and well-organised electoral process.

Under the revised timeline, the GBIMC’s extended mandate will expire at the end of April 2026. Elections for the substantive leadership of the GBA have been scheduled for the period between May and June 2026, subject to the completion of all preparatory processes, including stakeholder consultations, the validation of electoral guidelines and the harmonisation of governance structures.

The NSA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have reaffirmed their commitment to restoring stability, accountability and good governance to boxing in Ghana, stressing that the interim arrangement remains a transitional measure towards the reconstitution of a fully functional and democratically elected Ghana Boxing Authority.
