Exclusive: Swedru School of Business to Host GES Zone 2 Inter-School Athletics Competition
Zone 2 Schools Gear Up for Major Inter-School Athletics Showdown in Agona Swedru
The Ghana Education Service (GES), through the Central Region Schools and Colleges Sports Association, has announced the Zone 2 Inter-School Athletics Competition, scheduled to take place from Wednesday 19 to Thursday 20 February 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day, at the Swedru School of Business football field and athletics oval in Agona Swedru.

The competition forms part of ongoing efforts to promote grassroots sports development and talent identification among schools within the zone. In preparation for the event, Joseph Bennin, popularly known as Scanty Mono of Swedru School of Business, together with other School Sports directors and managers have managed to play certain key roles in reshaping and improving the school’s football field and athletics oval, as well as the mobilisation of essential sporting equipment to support athletics and related sporting programmes.
Several distinguished sports administrators and security service personnel from within the zone who has the development of sporting talents from the grassroots are expected to support and grace the event. They include Rashida Aminu of the Ghana Immigration Service, Ishmael Arthur of the Ghana Armed Forces, Basit Afful of the Ghana Armed Forces, Abiathar Barnes of the Ghana Armed Forces, Agnes Armah of the Ghana Police Service (Handball Team), and William Amponsah, based in the United States of America. These individuals have all contributed in various capacities to sports development within the zone.
The Zone 2 sports administration is led by Miss Jennifer Tumfo, Chairperson, with Victor Mensah serving as Zonal Secretary and Moses Keti as Deputy Zonal Secretary. The financial administration of the zone is overseen by Abdulai Braimah, Treasurer, while Lydia Ayamdor Awinpoya serves as the Lady Representative, advocating for female participation and inclusion in sports.
The organisers have expressed optimism that the competition will not only foster healthy rivalry among schools but also strengthen discipline, teamwork and athletic excellence among students, while further enhancing the sporting infrastructure within the Central Region.
