FIFA President Gianni Infantino has heaped praise on Tunisian giants Espérance Sportive de Tunis for their commendable performance and overall impact at the FIFA Club World Cup.

In a statement released by FIFA, Infantino highlighted the club’s resilience, professionalism, and the competitive spirit they brought to the global stage. He noted that Espérance’s participation reflected the growing strength and influence of African clubs in international football.

“Espérance de Tunis once again demonstrated the quality and passion that characterise African football,” Infantino stated. “Their performance at the Club World Cup not only represented Tunisia with pride but also showcased the level of talent and determination present across the continent.”

Espérance, who qualified for the prestigious tournament as winners of the CAF Champions League, have consistently featured in the Club World Cup in recent years, building a reputation as one of Africa’s most successful and respected clubs.

The Tunis-based side’s involvement in the tournament drew significant attention, both on and off the pitch, as they competed against some of the world’s elite clubs. Their presence also contributed to increased viewership and global engagement with the tournament.

Infantino emphasised that the participation of clubs like Espérance underlines the importance of continued investment in African football. “FIFA remains committed to supporting the growth of football in Africa, and clubs like Espérance play a crucial role in driving that progress,” he added.

Espérance’s leadership welcomed the commendation, with club president Hamdi Meddeb expressing gratitude to FIFA for the recognition. “We are honoured by President Infantino’s words. Espérance will continue to work hard to represent Tunisia and Africa at the highest level,” he said.

As the football world looks ahead to future editions of the Club World Cup, Espérance’s efforts serve as a testament to the rising standards of African club football and its readiness to compete on the global stage.
