Fiorentina Secure Ghanaian Defender Tariq Lamptey from Brighton on Four-Year Deal

Italian Serie A club Fiorentina has confirmed the signing of Ghanaian international Tariq Lamptey from Premier League team Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth £6 million, including add-ons.

The transfer marks a new chapter for the versatile right-back, who joins La Viola as a backup option behind Brazilian defender Dodo. Lamptey has been assigned the jersey number 48 ahead of his debut season with the Italian side.

Lamptey’s last season at Brighton was significantly affected by recurring injuries, which limited him to just 15 appearances across all competitions. Despite the setbacks, the 24-year-old defender contributed two goals and multiple assists during his time on the pitch.

His injury struggles also saw him excluded from the matchday squads in Brighton’s first three games of the current campaign against Fulham, Everton, and Oxford United. Since arriving at Brighton from Chelsea, Lamptey accumulated 104 appearances and scored three goals, establishing himself as a highly adaptable player on the flank.

Known for his pace and attacking prowess from defense, Lamptey’s ability to play both as a full-back and winger has made him a valuable asset throughout his career in England’s top flight. As Tariq Lamptey transitions to Serie A football with Fiorentina, he is also gearing up to represent Ghana on the international stage.

The right-back is expected to join his Black Stars teammates for the upcoming Matchday 7 and 8 fixtures of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, scheduled against Chad and Mali later this month. His presence will be crucial as Ghana bids to secure a place in the global tournament
