Former Arsenal and Ghana international footballer Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault by UK authorities.

The 32-year-old midfielder was formally charged on Friday, 4 July, following a three-year investigation conducted by Scotland Yard. The charges relate to incidents alleged to have occurred between 2021 and 2022, involving three women.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service:

  • Two counts of rape pertain to one woman.

  • Three further counts of rape relate to a second woman.

  • The single count of sexual assault involves a third woman.

The charges were filed just five days after Partey’s contract with Arsenal expired on 30 June, leaving him currently unattached to any club.

Partey is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, said:

“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward. We would urge anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone with information, to speak with our team.”

Partey had recently become a free agent, with reported interest from top European clubs including Juventus, Barcelona, and Fenerbahçe.

The Ghanaian midfielder spent five seasons at Arsenal following a high-profile move from Atlético Madrid in 2020. While his time at the Emirates was marred by injuries, he still made 130 Premier League appearances, including 35 matches in the 2024/25 season, during which he scored four goals.

Internationally, Partey has been a mainstay in the Ghana national team, earning dozens of caps over the past decade.

The case remains ongoing. Partey is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
