Former Ghana international and coach Laryea Kingston has masterminded Uganda’s U-17 national team’s qualification for the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following an emphatic 3-0 victory over Ethiopia.

Kingston, who enjoyed a distinguished playing career with the Black Stars and several top-flight clubs in Ghana and abroad, has now turned his attention to coaching, bringing his wealth of experience to Uganda’s youth setup. Under his guidance, the Uganda U-17 team produced a commanding performance, dominating possession and creating multiple scoring opportunities before sealing the win with three well-taken goals.

The victory ensures Uganda’s place at the 2026 tournament, highlighting Kingston’s growing reputation as a tactically astute coach capable of nurturing young talent. Analysts have praised his emphasis on discipline, teamwork, and attacking football, which were clearly on display in the decisive win against Ethiopia.

Kingston expressed delight at the achievement, saying: “It is a proud moment for the team and for Ugandan football. These young players have shown immense character and commitment, and I am confident they will continue to make the nation proud at the continental stage.”

The win marks a significant milestone for both Kingston and the Uganda U-17 team, as they now prepare to face stiffer competition at the AFCON tournament, with hopes of securing further success on the African stage.
