Frederick Asare Signs for Durban City FC Following Departure from Asante Kotoko

Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare has completed a move to South African Betway Premiership side Durban City FC, following the expiration of his contract with the Porcupine Warriors. The 26-year-old has signed a two-year deal, with an option to extend for a further two years – signalling the beginning of a new chapter in his professional career.

Asare’s transfer comes at a time of significant transition for Asante Kotoko, who have parted ways with several players after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign. Since joining the Kumasi-based club from Accra Lions in 2022, Asare impressed with a series of outstanding performances – notably playing a key role in Kotoko’s 2025 MTN FA Cup triumph. His consistent form also earned him a call-up to the Ghana national team, the Black Stars, solidifying his status as one of the country’s top goalkeepers.

Now set to ply his trade in one of Africa’s most competitive leagues, Asare is eager to make his mark in South Africa. Sources close to the player say he is excited about the new challenge and looks forward to contributing significantly to Durban City FC’s ambitions in the Betway Premiership.
