Full-Time: Ghana Battle to a Draw Against Togo After Early Red Card

2

Ghana’s U17 side, the Black Starlets, were forced to settle for a 1–1 draw with Togo in their opening WAFU B U17 Championship fixture.

The Starlets made a bright start despite being reduced to ten men as early as the 3rd minute when defender Gabriel Denyinah was shown a straight red card for a last-man foul. Just six minutes later, Joseph Narbi gave Ghana the lead with a well-taken strike in the 9th minute, raising hopes of a famous win against the odds.

Togo gradually grew into the game and capitalised on their numerical advantage in the second half, drawing level to frustrate Ghana’s resilient defensive effort. The Starlets dug deep and showed great character to keep their opponents at bay, holding on for a valuable point in a highly competitive group stage encounter.

The result leaves Ghana with work to do in their next match as they aim to progress from the group and secure qualification for the continental stage.
