Gernot Rohr appointed Head Coach of Benin

German tactician Gernot Rohr has been appointed the new Head Coach of the Benin National Team on Tuesday, February 14, 2023.

The decision to appoint Gernot Rohr comes after an Executive Committee meeting of the Benin Football Federation held on Tuesday to finalize on who take charge of the Squirrels.

The former Nigeria Head Coach’s appointment takes effect on Monday, February 21, 2023.

The 68-year-old got dismissed in December 2021 few weeks to the Africa Cup of Nations held in Cameroon after five years of service to the Super Eagles.

Gernot Rohr has since been unattached whiles sorting out for his compensation of $1 million from NFF at FIFA until his appointment today.

Benin will be in action for the AFCON 2023 Qualifier on 20th March and 24th March against Rwanda in a double-headers encounter in Cotonou and Kigali respectively and it will be the first competitive games for Gernot Rohr.

Benin has lost two games in the Qualifier against Senegal and Mozambique in Group L.
