The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to host a testimonial match in honour of Asamoah Gyan, the legendary Ghanaian striker and former captain of the Black Stars.

This event aims to celebrate Gyan’s outstanding career and significant contributions to Ghanaian football. Details of the match will be revealed in due course through a collaboration between the GFA and the iconic forward himself.

Affectionately known as “Baby Jet,” Gyan stands as Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, netting 51 goals in 109 appearances for the national team.

His influence transcends Ghana, as he holds the record for Africa’s highest goal scorer in FIFA World Cup history, with six goals scored over three World Cups; Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, and Brazil 2014.

Aside from his international exploits, Gyan enjoyed a distinguished club career across multiple continents. He began professionally with Liberty Professionals in Ghana before moving to Udinese in Italy.

His time in Europe also included stints at Modena, Rennes in France, and Sunderland in the English Premier League, displaying his talent on some of football’s biggest stages.

Gyan’s career later flourished in Asia and the Middle East, where he became a star with Al Ain and Al Ahli in the UAE, followed by spells at Shanghai SIPG in China and Kayserispor in Turkey.

He wrapped up his professional career back home at Legon Cities FC, symbolizing his enduring connection to Ghanaian football.

The planned testimonial match will be a fitting tribute to a player whose leadership, skill, and charisma have left a lasting legacy both in Ghana and across Africa.

It promises to be a jubilant occasion celebrating a career that inspired millions and confirmed Asamoah Gyan’s place among the continent’s greatest football icons.
