Ghana’s U-19 national team fell to a 3-1 defeat against FC Basel’s U-21 side in the first of two scheduled international friendly matches, held at the Nachwuchs Campus in Switzerland on Wednesday.

The match formed part of the team’s ongoing European tour aimed at offering the young players valuable international exposure and preparing them for future competitive engagements. Despite a spirited performance, the Ghanaian side was unable to contain a more experienced Basel U-21 outfit, who capitalised on key opportunities to seal the win.

The Black Satellites managed to pull a goal back but were ultimately outclassed by the Swiss side, who play at a higher age category and level of competition.

Ghana’s next fixture is set for Friday, 25 July, when they take on FC Basel’s U-19 team — a more evenly matched opponent. The team will be aiming to bounce back with an improved performance as the technical team continues to assess player development and team cohesion during the tour.
