Barcelona Atlètic Set to Send Ghana’s David Oduro on Loan Amid Girona Interest

Following the recent departure of Abdul Aziz Issah from FC Barcelona Atlètic, another Ghanaian talent, David Oduro, is set to leave the Estadi Johan Cruyff—albeit on a temporary basis.

The 19-year-old left-back joined Barcelona’s youth setup from Ghanaian side Accra Lions ahead of the just-ended 2024/25 season, after impressing during a successful trial period.

Oduro started brightly in Spain, catching the attention of many with his composure and potential. He even earned occasional call-ups to train with the senior team—fueling optimism among Ghanaian supporters that a rapid promotion could be on the horizon.

Despite his promise, Oduro made 10 appearances—including five starts—for Barça Atlètic, but his contributions were not enough to help the team avoid relegation from Group I of the Primera Federación.

With his contract set to run until summer 2027, FC Barcelona are not considering a permanent exit for the player. Instead, they are preparing to send him out on loan to a more competitive environment where he can continue his development and gain valuable first-team experience.

Spanish media reports indicate that Girona FC, city rivals of Barcelona, have shown concrete interest in acquiring Oduro. However, it remains unclear whether Girona are seeking a loan deal or a permanent transfer.

Currently on holiday, David Oduro is taking time to rest and recharge as he looks ahead to the 2025/26 season, hoping to take the next step in his professional journey.
