GOC Hails Passage of Sports Fund Bill as Game-Changer for Ghana Sports Development

0 3

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has warmly welcomed the passage of the Sports Fund Bill, describing it as a significant milestone in efforts to address the longstanding funding challenges confronting sports development in the country.

GOC President, Richard Akpokavie Esq., stated that the establishment of the Fund is expected to provide a sustainable and reliable source of financing for sporting activities nationwide. He drew parallels with the transformative impact of Value Added Tax (VAT) on key national interventions, expressing confidence that the Sports Fund would similarly strengthen the financial foundation of Ghana’s sporting sector.

According to the GOC, the Fund is set to tackle the chronic underfunding that has hindered progress over the years, enabling increased investment in sports infrastructure, athlete welfare, capacity-building initiatives and grassroots development programmes.

National sports federations are anticipated to be among the primary beneficiaries, with the enhanced financial support expected to improve preparation, participation and performance at regional and international competitions.

The GOC believes the Sports Fund will play a crucial role in positioning Ghana for sustained sporting success and elevating the country’s profile on the global stage.
