The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr Richard Akpokavie Esq., has encouraged the newly elected leadership of the Ghana Judo Association (GJA) to place athlete development at the forefront of their agenda while creating more competitive platforms to elevate the sport on the international stage.

Speaking as an observer at the Ghana Judo Association’s elections held on Saturday in Accra, Mr Akpokavie underscored the importance of nurturing talent and providing athletes with consistent opportunities to compete, stating that such measures are crucial for the growth and success of Judo both locally and globally.

He further urged the new executive body to make a deliberate effort to promote female participation in the sport, highlighting the need for gender inclusion in line with the values of the International Olympic Committee.

Mr Akpokavie reaffirmed the GOC’s continued support for all federations, particularly those committed to holistic athlete development, equal opportunity, and sustainable sports governance.

The elections mark a new chapter for the Ghana Judo Association, as it aims to reposition itself to meet international standards and build a stronger presence at global competitions.
