Gold Stars goalkeeper Emmanuel Kobi has voiced his confidence as his side gears up to face Asante Kotoko in the 2025 Champion of Champions showdown on Sunday, 31 August.

The much-anticipated fixture, officially confirmed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), will act as the curtain-raiser for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

Speaking to GFA Media, Kobi stressed that the league champions are unfazed by Kotoko’s pedigree and are determined to secure yet another piece of silverware.

“The moment we lifted the Ghana Premier League title, it showed we have no fear of any team in the country, whether they are in form or not. We are ready to face Kotoko, and we must win that trophy as well,” he said.

The one-off clash, played under Article 9 of the Premier League Regulations, pits reigning league champions Gold Stars against MTN FA Cup holders Asante Kotoko, with both sides eyeing early bragging rights ahead of the new campaign.

Gold Stars approach the contest buoyed by their historic maiden league triumph and their recent success in the GHALCA Top Four tournament. Kotoko, meanwhile, sealed their place in the competition by clinching the FA Cup, adding to their illustrious history.

The Champion of Champions tie has traditionally provided fans with an early taste of the intensity to expect in the upcoming season. Last year, FC Samartex edged Nsoatreman FC 1-0 in Tarkwa to lift the 2024 edition.
