Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome, the immediate past Member of Parliament for South Tongu in the Volta Region and former Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture in the 8th Parliament, has been appointed Chair of the Ghana Olympic Committee’s (GOC) newly established Government Relations and Stakeholders Subcommittee.

The committee, set up by the current GOC Board under the leadership of President Richard Kofi Akpokavie, is the first of its kind. It has been tasked with fast-tracking, advising on, and guiding government policies on sport in line with the Ghana Olympic Committee’s development agenda, which is aligned with the objectives of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The appointment forms part of the broader committee structure recently approved by the GOC Executive Board.

In a letter dated 12 August 2025, signed by the GOC Secretary General, Mohammed Muniru Kassim, and copied to the GOC President, Hon. Woyome was formally congratulated on his new role. The letter further assured him of the Committee’s commitment to working collectively to advance the development of sport in Ghana, ultimately benefitting millions of young athletes, coaches and technical officials across the country.
