Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana has officially parted ways with EFL Championship side Southampton, penning an emotional farewell note following his transfer to Italian Serie A outfit Atalanta.

The 22-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Bergamo-based club in a deal reportedly worth €18 million. His move to Italy marks a significant step forward in his career, with Atalanta set to feature in the 2025–26 UEFA Champions League.

Sulemana will join up with fellow Ghanaian international Ibrahim Sulemana, and reunite with former Southampton manager Ivan Juric, who is now in charge of the Serie A side.

The pacey winger arrived at Southampton in January 2023 from French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais for a then-club record fee. During his two-and-a-half-year stint with the Saints, Sulemana experienced both the highs and lows of English football—featuring in Premier League campaigns and enduring the club’s relegation to the Championship.

Despite challenges with injuries and team form, Sulemana remained a key attacking option and a fan favourite, best remembered for his brace against Liverpool on the final day of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Sulemana expressed his gratitude to the club and its supporters:

“Through the highs and lows, Southampton have been a family. Together we’ve grown through what we’ve been through. For the lessons and development, I wish you the best this season and the future. Thank you Saints. March on Saints!!”

Southampton have not yet announced a replacement for the departing winger, but the club is expected to be active in the transfer market as they prepare for the upcoming Championship season.

Sulemana’s move to Atalanta is seen as a major opportunity to revitalise his career at the highest level of European competition, as he aims to make a strong impression in both Serie A and the UEFA Champions League.
