Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has presented a cash reward of GH¢10,000 to Asante Kotoko following their impressive comeback victory over Accra Hearts of Oak in the 2025 President’s Cup, held on Sunday, 6 July, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The fiercely contested encounter lived up to its billing as Ghana’s most storied football rivalry. Hearts of Oak took an early lead in the first half, capitalising on a defensive lapse by Kotoko. But the Porcupine Warriors responded with determination in the second half, scoring two well-taken goals to seal a thrilling 2–1 victory in front of a vibrant, sold-out crowd.
The electric atmosphere in the stadium was further amplified by pre-match musical performances and a renewed public interest in domestic football, largely attributed to the Sports Ministry’s recent reforms and fan engagement strategies.
Following the match, Hon. Adams visited the victorious Kotoko squad at their team hotel, where he personally presented the GH¢10,000 cash gift as a gesture of appreciation for their resilience and fighting spirit.
“As your reward for the win—and for your journey back—I am giving you GH¢10,000. Use it to get yourselves water and more,” the Minister said, jokingly.
“Congratulations. Our target is now at the continental level, and we will be there to support you. We will mobilise support, both personally and at the national level, to ensure that Kotoko and Ghanaian football succeed beyond our borders.”
Kotoko’s victory in this year’s President’s Cup not only grants them national bragging rights but also provides a psychological boost ahead of the new domestic season. It marks another milestone in the club’s efforts to reclaim dominance both locally and on the continental stage.
The Minister’s gesture is part of a broader effort to incentivise performance and restore pride in Ghanaian football. Under his leadership, major events such as Ghana’s 5–0 win over Chad and the 2025 President’s Cup have drawn record-breaking crowds, signalling a new era of fan engagement and strategic investment in the local game.
