Kofi Adams Refutes Reports of NSA Staff Revocation Directive
Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has dismissed reports suggesting he ordered the revocation of appointments of newly recruited staff at the National Sports Authority (NSA).
The Minister described the claims as inaccurate and misleading, insisting that no unilateral directive had been issued from his office to terminate the appointments. According to him, any decision regarding staff recruitment or revocation must follow due process and the laid-down administrative procedures governing the Authority.
The controversy follows widespread reports alleging that the Minister had instructed the Director-General of the NSA, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, to revoke the appointments of 17 staff members said to have been recruited outside the approved structure of the Authority. The reports further suggested that certain positions, including that of Chief Operations Officer, were not recognised within the NSA’s current organisational framework.
However, speaking to clarify the situation, Mr Adams emphasised that while concerns may have been raised by the NSA Board regarding compliance with recruitment protocols, his office had not acted outside the proper governance channels. He reiterated his commitment to transparency, accountability and adherence to institutional procedures within Ghana’s sports administration.
Mr Adams also urged the public and sections of the media to verify information before publication, noting that speculative reporting risks creating unnecessary tension within the sector.
The Minister reaffirmed his support for the NSA leadership and stressed the importance of collaboration between the Ministry and the Authority to ensure stability and effective management of Ghana’s sporting infrastructure and programmes.
The development comes at a time when the Ministry is undertaking broader reforms aimed at strengthening governance and operational efficiency within state sports institutions.
