President Nana Akufo-Addo has commissioned the Koforidua Youth Resource Centre upon the completion of it’s construction.
Among those in attendance were Pius Enam Hadzide, CEO of the National Youth Agency (NYA), President of the Ghana Football Association Kurt Okraku, and Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif.
The project which was commissioned on Wednesday, December 27 is one of the ten Youth Resource Centres that the government promised to construct in an attempt to improve sports development in the country.
The structure includes a nine-lane track, a FIFA-standard football field, and multipurpose courts for handball, volleyball, tennis, and basketball.
In addition, the facility has a state-of-the-art restaurant, entrepreneurship center, counseling center, information technology hub, and modern gym, offering a comprehensive setting for both intellectual and physical growth.
“The facility you see here is not mainly a sports complex. We must fully appreciate its worth and essence to us and therefore acknowledge government’s unwavering dedication to developing the potentials of Ghanaian youth. Our first order of business as beneficiaries of this project is by collectively ensuring its optimal utilisation. To ensure sustainability, the governing board of the National Youth Authority (NYA) had to leverage the services of third-party facility managers to manage and oversee the regular and proper maintenance and usage of the facility.” Enam Hadzide stated during her speech at the commissioning.
In 2018, the Ghanaian government, represented by Isaac Asiamah, the then-sports minister, broke ground on ten multipurpose Youth Resource Centers that would be constructed throughout the nation.
Axim, Accra, Navrongo, Yendi, Ho, Dormaa, Dunkwa Offin, Nyinahini, and Wa are anticipated to accommodate the remaining nine.
