Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko will face Nigerian side Kwara United in the first preliminary round of the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors booked their place in the competition after winning last season’s Ghana FA Cup, defeating lower-division side Golden Kick FC 2-1 in the final.

Founded 28 years ago, Kwara United have experienced spells both in and out of the Nigerian top flight, but have been a consistent presence since 2019. They last appeared in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2022 and qualified for this year’s edition after edging past Abaliki FC on penalties in the Nigerian FA Cup final.

The victor of this encounter will advance to face Moroccan heavyweights Wydad Athletic Club in the second preliminary round.

The first leg is scheduled for the weekend of 19–21 September, with the return fixture set for 26–28 September 2025.

The Porcupine Warriors, winners of last season’s Ghana FA Cup, will host the first leg in Kumasi between 19–21 September before travelling for the return match a week later.

The aggregate winner will progress to meet Moroccan giants Wydad AC in the next round.
