Ghanaian midfielder Kudus Mohammed returned to his former school, Nima Basic 1 in Accra, on Monday, 30th June 2025, as part of his ongoing #KudusDream initiative, donating football kits and educational materials to the pupils.
The West Ham United star received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from pupils, teachers, and staff at the school where he began his basic education. The visit, dubbed “Kudus Mohammed School Homecoming Visitation”, was supported by global footwear brand Skechers and aimed at empowering young learners through education and sport.
“This is where everything started for me,” Kudus said. “Coming back here isn’t just about giving—it’s a reminder to these kids that it’s possible. I was once one of them.”
In an emotional address, Kudus recounted his humble beginnings, sharing stories of his time in the very classrooms the pupils now occupy. He highlighted how he balanced schoolwork with his passion for football, encouraging the students to stay focused and dream big.
“I’m just here to shed a little light on my story and how I got to where I am today. I started just like all of you, studying in this school. But I also loved football, just like many of you.”
Kudus stressed the importance of education, even for aspiring athletes. He explained that success in football also requires knowledge and communication skills off the pitch.
“In football, you need your basic education. You need to be able to read contracts, speak during interviews, and engage with people. So, take your education seriously.”
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Kudus described the donation as a small gesture of appreciation to the community that raised him.
“It’s just a little way of saying thank you for the support and the education that helped shape who I am.”
He ended his speech with a message of encouragement:
“Whatever you want to become in life, education is the foundation. I just want to tell you I love you all and thank you for this beautiful reception.”
Teachers and education officials at the event described the gesture as both inspiring and transformative.
“This visit will stay with them,” one teacher remarked. “To see someone who once sat in these same classrooms now giving back changes how a child sees their own future.”
Kudus spent time interacting with pupils, educators, media personnel, and community members, pausing for photos, sharing smiles, and offering words of encouragement.
The #KudusDream initiative is a personal project by Kudus Mohammed focused on uplifting underserved communities, particularly Zongo communities in Ghana. Since its launch, the initiative has worked to bridge gaps in education and sports access while encouraging young people to believe in their potential, no matter their background.
